Who Are We?

The St Clair Adventure Guild is the home of Game Master Sophia St Clair and her cohort of creative friends and found family.  Sophia has been playing RPG’s since the 80’s and has been an active GM for the last 40 years.  She enjoys Dungeons and Dragons 5e, Kids on Bikes, Call of Cthulhu and her own home brew games.  Sophia enjoys writing one shot modules, hosting games in person and on line and mentoring high school students through their first RPG games.

Sophia’s games are characterized by collaborative storytelling, settings steeped in historical precedent and improvisational role play.  When possible props, maps and tokens enhance the story, but most of the time, Sophia works in the Theater of the Mind.

With 30 years of teaching experience in secondary public school, Sophia is uniquely skilled at managing the players at her table.  She knows how to listen, has a strong understanding of how to build community to create safe spaces for players to stretch and explore the story and themselves.   She knows how to pivot when her players throw her a curve ball and how to create inclusive spaces for a diverse RPG community.

Sophia runs a tight, organized game that draws elements from all her players, so each game is unique and special to each group who comes to the table.

What Our Players Are Saying

When I told the story of your game, and I did recount the tale in epic detail, I positively gushed about your attention to the player experience. It is absolutely impossible to feel left out of the action in your game. Everyone contributes in every scene and has plenty of space for their own preferences and creativity. Wallflowers beware!

Best DM voices, having the players describe the place and what they saw was very engaging.

Have had the great pleasure of playing with Sophia as GM and PC. She always brings rich story, engaging characters with virtues and flaws making for incredibly engaging game play. As a player able to create incredibly compelling characters with depth and nuance. As a GM she can be a chameleon inhabiting multiple and distinct characters in the span of five minutes each with quirks and goals unique to them. How she does it I do not know , but makes each game special. Definitely in my Top 3 GMs I’ve had the pleasure to engage in 35+ years of play.

Kudos! Both of Sophia’s one shots had meticulously researched settings (19th century Japan, 18th century alternate Scotland) filled with colorful NPCs, but left plenty of room for player creativity to directly contribute to the settings and plot. All that roleplaying AND creative combat, where the sea creatures contributed as much to the cause as the magic and muskets! Thank you for two wonderful games and several new insider references (river turtles!).

Most fun that I’ve had with any RPG and I’ve been doing this for decades. If you have an opportunity to participate in any of these games, you will not regret it.

Sophia’s creativity as a GM is only exceeded by her kindness. Every week I look forward to spending hours at the table sharing and exploring the world she has created. She draws upon her deep knowledge of real culture and history to ground the experiences while still adding flare, whimsy and fun to every adventure. She challenges each of her players to really introspect and empathize with the created character such that you really invest emotionally with the story telling. I cannot express how grateful i am to be a player at her table and look forward to all the adventures to come!

Sophia is an exceptional GM and storyteller who can navigate historical detail right along with rich fantasy. She has that rare talent for crafting games that engage her players, whoever they are, wherever they are, and wherever they want to go.
